We Are Rice is a comprehensive design service studio, part of a collective with a small dynamic team, with diversity in our armoury we can meet the challenges businesses face on a very different landscape.

We cover commercial design, from branding to web design and have the necessary tools to elevate your presence. We apply the same principles to the spaces you inhabit, engaging the user and object, creating harmony within this interaction.

The 'We Are' collective has some 50+ years in the sector, so you are in the hands of nice people, which is why We Are NiCE was formed, NiCE is Andy Rice and Lynne Duffus. We are NiCE… not blowing our own trumpet, others tell us.

As you find out about us it becomes clear why 2 people with a shared vision are shaping and innovating the discipline across private and commercial interiors. NiCE was formed in 2016, passionate about design we got drunk at a party and talked for hours about chairs. Now we’ve joined forces and are up and running we can offer so many different services, it’s ridiculously fabulous; the results range from private residences to award winning restaurants and hotels.

We see you intrinsically linked to how we work. We are all about the collaborative relationship – that’s our approach (because we’re nice) and we thrive on new challenges and the ability to understand the fundamental aspect of design success. We work independently, collaboratively and undertake commissions. We have designed, manufactured, and created bespoke pieces for a diverse range of clients to suit the many varied interiors, be they bars, restaurants or homes.

Who we are...

Lynne Duffus (Lovely Things) broadcaster, interior designer, retailer and entrepreneur. Winner of three Silver Awards for comedy writing at the New York Radio Festivals and numerous Finalist Awards in Scotland for retail & business, safe to say, never a dull moment. From antiques to contemporary, scatter cushions to lighting, bespoke salvage and room design, she has immersed herself within the discipline of design. She operates daily in both interior and retail sectors, interfacing with clients. She has been providing interior services, advice and retail for over 15 years.

With a charm that puts you at ease and an ethos focused on relationships she will strive to get to know you, find out how you live and what drives you, vital knowledge for her when planning a design change. She has an eye for space and its new found purpose. A melting pot of creativity awaits any client.

Andy Rice (Not Just Design) is the face behind commercial design and the manufacturing process. With an extensive professional background in commercial design, he has evolved into what one client called ‘The Alchemist’. He looks at objects and sees things most of us dismiss. When he gets that look in his eye, we wonder what’s coming! He rarely says 'interiors', he consider everything 'a space' to develop from the paper he sketches on, to the buildings he walks into. An award winning designer, he offers an extensive design toolkit that makes a difference to our projects.

Transformation is his goal. He thinks society is a little too obsessed with newness, which casts a shadow over an ability to see new possibilities in the unloved. Breathing new life into old and odd objects or out-of-date services, and going beyond their intended use to create imaginative works. Looking at artifacts and environments and reconsidering them; what was its purpose? What can it be? How can we transform it into something different, desirable,  meaningful, soothing on the mind?

Humour is a must. Smiling and people smiling back. Being a little different is ok...after all, what is normal anyway?
